Example of science write-up:
The research cited in this article is related to risk-taking behavior and the possible
involvement of dopamine (and dopamine receptors), a brain chemical known as a
neurotransmitter. It provides some supporting evidence that deficiencies in
dopamine may contribute to certain personality characteristics. David Zald, a
neuroscientist, notes that a “propensity for risky behaviors, like driving fast cars,
gambling and drinking . . . .” may influenced by dopamine. Dopamine is known to
be the brain’s “pleasure chemical.” What is interesting about this article is the
finding that risk-takers have fewer dopamine receptors, but, paradoxically, when
they engage in thrill-seeking behavior, a large quantity of dopamine is released that
is not dampened (controlled, inhibited) as it is for most people. Consequently, the
individual ultimately has much more dopamine available at the receptor sites and
feels wonderful. This feeling is believed to serve as a powerful reinforcer for the
behavior or stimulus that evoked the release of the dopamine. Consequently, the
individual is very likely to repeat the behavior and may have significant difficulty
controlling it. In sum, a better understanding of the differences in the way different
brains reward risk taking or addictive behaviors may be very helpful in making
decisions regarding how to help them break self-defeating patterns. This article
leaves many unanswered questions and advocates further research.

Dear Class,
I wrote this summary just to give you an example of what I am looking for. You do
not need to go into this much detail. A general guideline to follow is, simply: 1)
Discuss what the article is about; 2) You might consider if it broadens our
understanding, challenges prior assumptions, or provides a direction for treatment
or more research? 3) Feel free to note if you found the article informative or
helpful?
